Sunflower Curriculum
Sunflower Preschool Ltd.’s curriculum is divided into three areas:
1. Large group activities including music, stories of all kinds, puppetry, drama and games.
2. Small group activities that include gently structured preschool, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten enrichment classes as well as learning centers and creative time.
3. Free choice playgroups where children choose their own activities.
Sunflower offers preschool, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten enrichment classes to our students both a.m. and p.m. Children are selected to be in a particular grouping based on age AND developmental readiness.
Curriculum is in keeping with sound principles of early childhood education. We focus on the process of play rather than the product of that play. In other words, if our original intent was for frog making and the frog looks more like a whale, that is okay. Each child’s interpretation is meaningful.
Each week we celebrate a “theme” and enhance that theme through math, science, language and creative arts. Sunflower also requires staff to teach and role model good manners and appropriate problem solving. All lead teachers are responsible for well thought out lesson plans to promote our topic and centers. Lesson plans are available and visible to parents at all times.
